"Ask the Experts" Program Description:

This live question and answer session will provide you the opportunity to ask nationally recognized experts in the area of venous thromboembolic disease about current issues related to VTE. Our esteemed faculty will provide their succinct insight to address contemporary concerns practitioners may have regarding the management of VTE in an interactive environment.  Topics open for discussion include the under-utilization of VTE prophylaxis, preventing, diagnosing, and treating VTE in hospitalized patients, as well as the management of VTE in patients with cancer.

This case-based educational program will help you to identify and discuss pertinent clinical data for the treatment and prevention of VTE, as well as demonstrate how these data can be interpreted and applied into clinical practice. This would include discussion of current issues and controversies surrounding management of VTE, identifying risk factors for VTE, the treatment and secondary prophylaxis in VTE, treatment options for the management of acute PE, as well a special consideration for the medically ill or patients with comorbidities. By reviewing specific patient cases, our esteemed faculty will provide concise and contemporary insight addressing concerns practitioners have regarding the management of patients with VTE.

Target Audience:

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of Cardio-thoracic Surgeons, Clinical Cardiologists, Primary Care Physicians, Internal Medicine Physicians, Interventional Cardiologists, Pulmonary Medicine Physicians and Nurses.

Educational Objectives:

Upon completion of this educational activity participants will be able to:

  • Identify patients that are at risk for VTE
  • Describe various tools available for the diagnosis of VTE
  • Compare and contrast prophylactic treatments for patients at risk for VTE
  • Evaluate current clinical practice guidelines for prevention and treatment of VTE
  • Interpret recent clinical trial data and evaluate its role in management and prophylaxis of VTE
